Our Story
Why “Aperture?”
In 2013, our founder Ryul and a man named Bo would start two businesses alongside each other: one a cafe, and the other a photography business. In honour of their close cooperation, the cafe came to be known as “Aperture.”
“a hole or an opening through which light travels. More specifically, the aperture and focal length of an optical system determine the cone angle of a bundle of rays that come to a focus in the image plane”
Paying tribute and homage to the photography industry, each Aperture Coffee Bar is uniquely designed to be a lens through which light can shine into the community, created based on the F-number of different lens apertures. It originally started as a cozy cafe on busy W. Broadway as a f1/2.8 which is the most commonly used high-quality aperture, it is now operating f/1.2 on Main Street at King Edward Avenue, which means a larger caliber, allows even more light through the lens.
